Painting is a work of art that applies paint, pigment, color or other medium to a surface. The media is usually applied by using a brush, but there are also those who use other tools such as knives, sponges, etc. If the painting contains deep meaning and makes art connoisseurs curious about the meaning of the painting, then the painting can be very famous and very expensive. Painting is a work produced by humans in which the work retells their inner experiences which are shown in a beautiful way so as to create other inner experiences for people who see the paintings as well as live up to the meaning of the paintings with feeling.

 

Kinds of Painting Style

In making paintings, an artist usually has the characteristics of a painting style. There are three painting styles in this sense, namely representative, non-representative and deformative. The representative painting style is an embodiment of the style in art that uses nature and life in society. Art styles included in the representative are naturalism, romanticism and realism.

The second style is non-representative. Representative style in terms of painting is the result of a painting whose shape is difficult to recognize. Characters from this non-representative painting style are But Mochtar, Amry Yahya, Fajar Sidik and Sadali. The third type of painting style is the deformative style. Deformative style is defined as a painting that changes from its original form to produce a new form, but still uses the basic form of the original. The styles of painting included in this deformative painting style are impressionism, expressionism, surrealism and cubism.

In general, painting has a function which is divided into 2 parts, namely the social function and the individual function.

1. Social function

The social function of a painting will appear if it can provide benefits for many people. Artwork can have a social function, that is, on condition that an artist must succeed in demonstrating social value or at least being accepted by society.

2. Individual functions

Painting produced from ideas, expressions, and feelings will contain the physical and spiritual needs of the artist himself. Paintings from artists can be recognized by other people or connoisseurs of art with a certain amount of rupiah. When compared to art enthusiasts in Italy, France, America and other developed countries, there is not much appreciation for painting in Indonesia for an artist. However, that is not an obstacle to work, in today's digital era, paintings can be published in all parts of the world.
